Community Conflicts in the Post-Soviet Era
Edited by Liana Giorgi, Ronald Pohoryles, Niki Rodousakis

Series Social Science Perspectives

This edited volume brings together contributions on several conflict-ridden areas in the New Independent States and South Eastern Europe and compares the community conflicts there emerging with long-standing community conflicts in the European Union area.
Community conflicts as emerging today in the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union need to be understood in relation to both the past Soviet era and the present process of nation-building and democratization. At the same time we must consider the interplay between material and immaterial factors in the way these conflicts are experienced, constructed and represented by relevant actors and the affected populations. Such an analysis needs to rely on sociology, political science as well as international relations and their respective methods.
